Commissioning a unique piece of art is a fun and exciting way to get exactly what you want, but it can be a daunting experience. Browse a selection of work for previously clients below and find out how the process works.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Some clients know exactly what they’d like, others need more guidance. Here’s a little checklist of things to include in your initial enquiry:

    • preferred colours and styles

    • dimensions

    • rough budget

    • and in the case of furniture and sculptures, material preferences.

The more information you can provide at this stage, the more accurate the quote and quicker the design phase. Designs can be made to fit any budget, with costs made transparent throughout the process.

  • After an initial discussion where the budget and parameters of the brief are set, a small design fee is requested before working up a selection of designs - anywhere between 3-8 designs will be presented. Revisions and any additional designs will be made until you are happy with the final idea.

The design fee will be deducted from the total cost of the commission, but is non-refundable if you choose not to proceed after this stage.

  • Final designs, budget and approx. lead times are signed off. A 50% deposit is required before work will begin.

  • Once complete, the final invoice for the remaining balance will be sent and delivery will be arranged. Any additional delivery or framing charges will have been made clear before the design phase.

 ARTELIUM WINE ESTATE

Artefact Wine Labels and Artwork

I used my innovative painting technique to produce a series of unique artworks to celebrate the growers and makers behind Artelium’s first release of Artefact wine. Three original paintings were created, alongside three corresponding wine labels, which reflect the changing colours and structures of the vines during the seasons.

The diagonal layout of the vineyard, including the monumental V on the South Downs which overlooks the vineyard, were manipulated mathematically to inform the sequence of pours. The colours were inspired by the seasonal colour changes of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines after the grape harvest where half the vine leaves in the vineyard turn red, the other half yellow.

In addition, the “waste” drips from the paintings were collected to produce an additional painting which is on display in their sister vineyard in East Sussex.

Whizz kidz

Make Your Mark Morph

Make your Mark Morph was commissioned as one of 56 Morphs that formed part of an accessible art trail that took over the streets over London during Summer 2023. After raising awareness about the work of Whizz Kidz, who help transform the lives of young wheelchair users across the UK, all 56 Morphs were auctioned of for charity raising over £100,000.

Make your Mark Morph uses free and unconstrained painting techniques, alongside a bright colour palette, to send the message that no matter your ability, everyone deserves to make their mark on the world, dream and live freely without barriers.

CANARY WHARF ARTS & EVENTS

Ebb & Flow

‘Play Me, I’m Yours’ is an initiative by British artist Luke Jerram where street pianos are installed in cities across the globe for everyone to play and enjoy. In September 2018, Canary Wharf Arts + Events commissioned five artists to decorate street pianos for the Estate. The pianos were placed around Canary Wharf in unexpected places with the simple instruction ‘Play Me, I’m Yours’.

‘Ebb & Flow’ was located in the entrance to the Crossrail Place Roof Garden from March 2019. It was later used in Britain’s Got Talent The Champions aired on ITV in Summer 2019.

HARU STUCK-ON DESIGN

One Hundred and Eighty Nine to Fourty Five

Part installation, part performance. This work was an exploration of the washi tape produced by Haru Stuck-on Design. Over time key elements of the work were subtracted each day to reveal an increasingly reduced version of the installation. By the end of the month the work disappeared altogether.

PRIVATE CLIENT

Sudoku No.9

Working with the client on the colours and size to match their decor, this work was commissioned as a gift to celebrate the completion of a PhD.

ASCENT UNDERWRITERS

Series One & Two

For this corporate commission, canvases were hung on sculptural wooden frames, the paint poured and tilted at angles onto further canvases to create pairings - one that is carefully considered by the artist as it tilts, the other, static on the floor, waits to collect the waste materials.

These unconventional painting tools allow gravity to paint sequences of canvases, challenging the idea of authorship. The final work bares no evidence of the gesture and emotion of the artist’s hand, instead the intricacies of the materials and the complexity of colour are revealed.
